At Cedar Theater, we make sure that everyone gets a part that will suit their skills and allow them to grow as a performer. Here are some key things to know about the audition process. Here’s what happens on audition day:

9am: Drop off

9am-11am: Learn the camp rules, get to know each other, and play some theater games.

11am-11:05am: Bathroom and water break.

11:05-11:55pm: Learn the audition dance. Everyone will be part of the dance audition.

12-12:45pm: Lunch break. Students provide their own lunch.

12:45: Learn the song. Those who want a solo will sing in front of the group alone.

1:55-2pm: Bathroom and water break.

2-2:15pm: Acting warm-up games.

2:15-2:45pm: Read-through of the entire play. This is your acting audition.

2:30pm: Everyone will fill out an audition form. These are due before the end of the day.

3pm: All parents must be available to pick up students at 3pm.

Once auditions are complete, then comes the difficult task of figuring out how to cast all of the amazing students who auditioned. It’s very important to note that only students who have paid their tuition fees will be cast in the show.

Based on the vocal performance, acting performance, and dancing parts of the audition, students will be placed into one of their three favorite roles, if possible. At times, the teacher may place a student in a role that will allow them to stretch as a performer, possibly something that they did not initially choose. Whether a student likes their role or does not, the casting is final at the time the cast list is posted. Refunds will not be given because a student does not like their part.
