Townspeople

At Cedar Theater, we make sure that everyone gets a part that will suit their skills and allow them to grow as a performer. Here are some key things to know about the audition process. Here’s what happens on audition day:

  1. You will either stay after school or be dropped off at Cedar Ridge Elementary School at 3:30-3:45 pm. All students must have a signed note with a parent contact number in order to participate.
  2. We will have a snack and go to the bathroom between 3:30-3:45 pm.
  3. We will do a short vocal and physical warm up between 3:45-3:55 pm.
  4. We will learn about the characters in the show from 3:55-4:00 pm.
  5. Everyone who auditions will fill out an audition form. Those will be turned in at 4 pm. You will need to write what three roles you would be interested in performing.
  6. We will learn our first song, “Opening for a Princess” from 4:00-4:30 pm.
  7. We will take a short bathroom and water break. Students will sign up for an order to audition in.
  8. We will do individual auditions with our learned song from 4:30-5:00 pm.
  9. We will learn a short section of the Spanish Panic dance from 5:00-5:30 pm.
  10. Those interested in auditioning for lead roles will have a chance to sing Happy Birthday in front of the group from 5:30-5:45.
  11. All parents must be available to pick up students at 5:45.

Once auditions are complete, then comes the difficult task of figuring out how to cast all of the amazing students who auditioned. It’s very important to note that only students who have paid their tuition fees will be cast in the show.

Based on the vocal performance, acting performance, and dancing parts of the audition, students will be placed into one of their three favorite roles, if possible. At times, the teacher may place a student in a role that will allow them to stretch as a performer, possibly something that they did not initially choose. Whether a student likes their role or does not, the casting is final at the time the cast list is posted. Refunds will not be given because a student does not like their part.
