Cedar Theater Mission Statement
Cedar Theater is dedicated to creating family-friendly entertainment for all ages through publications, recorded media, and live theatrical productions. Our commitment to artistic integrity and positive impact is rivaled only by our desire to teach the rising generation the skills of empathy, community, and tolerance as it supports a strong personal moral code. We believe that theater supports achievement and inclusion, and we strive in create productions that inspire, uplift, and educate both the performer and the viewer in meaningful, lasting ways.
Attendance
Attendance is very important when producing a play, and we strive to teach young performers that it is crucial to communicate effectively if there is ever a reason to miss rehearsal. The expectation is that students will attend 90% of all rehearsals, meaning at least 14 regular rehearsals and 2 Saturday rehearsals as well as all dress rehearsals and performance dates. Please do not enroll in the program if you cannot meet these rehearsal requirements. Please follow the guidelines if there is a reason to miss rehearsals.
• Contact the Coordinator at 702-249-2224 or via direct message on the Facebook Group as soon as you know that your student will not be able to participate in a rehearsal.
• If possible, make arrangements for a time to make up the missed rehearsal, if requested by the Coordinator.
• Three missed rehearsals or more will result in being removed from the production and your child’s part given to another student.
• Rehearsal and call times are final and enforced. Please be on time to all rehearsals and for all call times. More than 15 minutes late to rehearsal or performance is counted as an absence unless specifically excused.
• Consistent tardiness may lead to removal from the program. No refunds will be issued.
Drop Off and Pick-Up
Rehearsal starts and ends promptly. Drop off and pick-up times and rules are very important to ensure that our teachers and students are safe and their time is used effectively.
• Drop off and pick up is at the front of Cedar Ridge promptly at 3:30pm and 5:45pm. Please follow all regular guidelines to ensure that students are safe during pick-up. Students who are not enrolled at Cedar Ridge are permitted to arrive at 3:45, but may miss snack time. Rehearsal starts at 3:45pm.
• Students who are not picked up within 15 minutes of the pick-up time will run the risk of being removed from the program. No refunds will be given.
• If a parent/guardian cannot pick a student up on time, it is the parent’s responsibility to find an alternate means of ensuring the child is picked up in a timely manner.
• It is prohibited for teachers to drive students home.
• Once a student has left Cedar Ridge property, their safety and security is no longer a responsiblity of Cedar Theater.
• Teachers will stay until all students have been safely picked up.
• Pick up can only be done by the appropriate party on file for the student. If another driver is going to pick up a student, that must be shared with the Coordinator at least 15 minutes before the pick-up time on the date in question.
Discipline and Behavioral Disruption
We support a three strikes behavior policy; however, we reserve a zero tolerance policy regarding items listed in code of conduct above. In such cases, parents will immediately be contacted to pick up the child pending an investigation.
• If a child disrupts class, he or she is given a warning by the instructor or assistant.
• The second warning will result in an in-class time out.
• If the problematic behavior continues, the student’s parent will be notified of the occurrence by email, phone, or at checkout and information will be shared with the Cedar Theater Coordinator. (If behavior is too disruptive, the parent will be called to come pick a child up early from class/rehearsal.)
• If the problematic behavior continues beyond one class/rehearsal, the parent will be contacted and the child may be dismissed from the class or production.
Note: There is no tuition refund for children who are dismissed from camps, classes, or productions.
Health Care and Injury
In the case of a situation where a child is hurt or there is an emergency where the physical safety of our students is at risk, these policies are in place:
• In the case of a general emergency or risk situation, we will make every effort to post information and updates to our Facebook group regarding the incident or situation
• In the case of an isolated incident such as a scrape, bruise, or other event that involves a small group of students, the individual parents will be contacted and on-site health care measures will be provided.
• Any medications that must be given to the students of any kind, must have a written note from the parent/guardian in order to give those. This includes both over-the-counter and prescription medications.
• In the case of serious injury, students will be taken to the American Fork Hospital Emergency Room and parents will be contacted.
• Students who have medical needs that must be addressed will recieve appropriate provision for their participation in the program. If a student requires specialized assistance from a healthcare or behavioral healthcare worker, that must be provided by the parent to continue the program, and participation is at the discretion of the Children’s Theater Coordinator.
Food During Rehearsals & Performances
Food is acceptable and encouraged to send with students for Cedar Theater after-school snacks, although a small, healthy snack and water breaks will be provided for each theater rehearsal. Food at Cedar Theater must follow these rules:
- No nuts or nut-related foods of any kind
- All students with food allergies must make those known to the Children’s Theater Coordinator before the beginning of rehearsals and plan snacks accordingly (although we will strive to provide appropriate alternatives)
- Foods at Cedar Theater are not meant to be shared, and should remain in a closed container during non-eating times
- Snacks must be in a container that is clearly labeled for the student (a lunch box, small bag, etc.) in permanent ink
- Water bottles are the only drinks appropriate for the theater space. Soda and juices should not be shared or sent with students.
- Food breaks are only 10 minutes, so large meals are not appropriate. All snacks must be put away and stored so that rehearsal can resume quickly after snack break.
- Snack time is from 3:30-3:45. No snacks are to be eaten after this time unless specifically allowed by the instructor.
Dress Code & Costumes
Students are responsible for their own costumes and may be given specialized costume pieces to be responsible for. Some of these are expensive, and it is important to make sure that they are cared for. Here are some guidelines for costume care:
• Cedar Theater follows the Alpine School District Dress Code. Please refer to that document for specific guidelines.
• Costume pieces that are from home are the student’s responsiblity. Make sure that they are cleaned appropriately and have been approved by the Coordinator.
• Specialized and rented costume pieces must be given back in the same shape that they were handed out. Please wash these only when instructed.
• All costume pieces should remain at the theater in a ditty bag unless specifically told in writing otherwise. Ditty bags should not be taken off the property or shared with other students.
• All costume pieces must be returned within 7 days of the final performance. Any missing costume pieces will be charged to the student’s parents and must be paid for within 30 days of the final costume bill.
• Appropriate shoes are important to both rehearsals and performances. Dance shoes, if required, should only be worn in the rehearsal space and should not be used as street shoes, as it will ruin the bottoms of the soles. Close-toed, scuff-proof tennis shoes are suggested. Flip-flops are not appropriate rehearsal shoes. Specialized dance shoes are not required.
Make-Up Policy
Students will, in many cases, be responsible for their own makeup. However, in the case of specialized makeup, these are the general guidelines:
• Please tell the makeup artist of any rashes, open wounds, or other skin-related disorders before makeup begins.
• If makeup bothers or irritates the skin, please tell the Cedar Theater Coordinator right away, and every effort will be made to remove it.
• Makeup from home can be used, and is suggested. Core makeup kits can be purchased from Taylor Maid, but any base concealer, foundation, eyeliner, eyeshadow, and mascara can be used.
• Makeup should never be shared between performers, as it is a health risk.
• Makeup should only be brought to rehearsals when specifically instructed and should be contained in a small, personally-labeled container.
• During the run of the show, all makeup should remain with the ditty bag, and should not be taken home between rehearsals and performances.
Ticketing and Refunds
Tickets are available for purchase before the show at WeirdLittleWorlds.com. Students who participate in the program will recieve two (2) complimentary Adult tickets for the performance. All other tickets are $5 per each adult and $2 for each child under the age of 12.
Tickets are refundable up to 24 hours before the performance. Please allow 5-7 business days for a refund transaction to clear.
Tuition for Cedar Theater is due upon application and is non-refundable in all cases except:
• If more than 40 students register, student participants will be chosen randomly from the final applicants. Students not chosen for the program will have their tuition reimbursed within 7 days of the first day of camp.
• Students who have emergency or lasting health conditions unknown at the time of registration may be removed from the program and have their fees refunded.
Transportation Policy
In the event that Cedar Theater has performances off-site of Cedar Ridge Elementary, it is the duty of the parent/guardian to make appropriate plans to transport their students. All off-site performances will be outlined in writing at least 2 weeks in advance.
Cedar Theater reserves the right to host performances at the outdoor pavilion at Heritage Park, and provides transport by foot for students to attend that location. Any rehearsals that take place at Heritage Park will be outlined in writing at least 2 weeks in advance.
Students unable to physically complete the travel from Cedar Ridge Elementary to Heritage Park will need to have a parent/guardian’s written note and they may be excused from that rehearsal if no alternative transportation can be secured by the parent/guardian.
All of the rules and guidelines for Cedar Theater are in place, regardless where rehearsal takes place. Behavior and discipline rules apply.
